Fine Antique Scottish Grandfather Clock by Charles Lunan of Aberdeen - £5,000

Product Information

This beautiful Grandfather Clock is by the eminent maker, Charles Lunan of Aberdeen, who was registered in the seminal book 'Scottish Clockmakers' by John Smith.

The case is of a rich, brown, dense mahogany of the highest quality. It is raised upon a molded base and bracket feet. The door to the trunk retains its original lock and key. The hood is arched and features a beautifully carved shell. The glass door is flanked with finely fluted columns and brass capitals. There are sidelights to the hood, allowing one to see the brass mechanism in all its excellence. This encloses the brass dial which is finely engraved and features well sculptured brass spandrels. There is a silverised ring with Roman Numerals for the hour and minutes and a central ring for the seconds.

This clock has an eight day movement which strikes each hour and keeps time within the week to almost the very minute. The winding handle is the original. This mechanism has the strike silent action above the 60 minute numeral.

As one can see from the photographs, the original pendulum iron suspension rod is encased within wood which lends to a more accurate mechanism.

The price is £5000.
