Slains Castle by Colin Hunter, 1841 - 1904 Oil Painting
Born in Glasgow and brought up at Helensburgh, Hunter was greatly influenced by the sea, lochs and hills surrounding his home.
He gained his reputation, and is famous for, his seascapes. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and worked in Edinburgh for many years.
He also exhibited in many museums among them London Tate Gallery, Bristol, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Montreal, Cape-Town, and Hamburg.
Slains Castle itself was built in 1597, and is one of the most famous castle ruins in Scotland. It was infamously used by Bram Stoker as the inspiration for Dracula's castle.
